Sweet Air, Sharp Claws: What August 2026 Has in Store

July 30, 2026

After the rough waters of Cancer season, we start August shining light under our collective bed to scare away any monsters. This August is all about growth, stress testing, honesty, inspiration and the alchemy of trust. As the first week of August unfolds, the sun and Jupiter are still in a showdown with Pluto. The great light of the solar system and the greater good locked eyes with the king of the underworld at the start of Leo season in July, and by August 1 the tension is starting to break. As you incorporate and process the experiences of this cosmic showdown, we get support from Venus and Mercury making a harmonious sextile. You may find you are able to finally find the words to explain exactly what’s been happening in your heart with loved ones, as we all tidy the mess left behind. There is a particularly sweet day on August 6 as Mercury and Venus share one last kiss on the cheek before Venus moves into Libra; it’s a great day to go to therapy, or at the very least, talk with a trusted beloved.

Venus in Libra Brings Dreams and Tests

Venus moves into Libra on August 7 and brings a breath of sweetly scented air into the pressure cooker of the last few weeks. She is immediately swept into the cosmic swirl of Neptune in Aries by opposition. This is an ethereal time for Venus, full of flowing soft fabrics and glittering pollen floating through the sweet, heated air. Notice your senses, the feel of your mouth as you bite into a sun warmed piece of fruit, sip a glass of icy tart lemonade, watch the dance of incense floating through the air. Allow beauty to be your buoy.

However, Mars in Cancer will begin to snap his claws at Venus to ask us if this self-indulgence is a distraction from the wars. There is a vibe of distraction and delusion as a coping mechanism against the violence of the world. As we walk through August, Venus shifts from dreamy hedonist into business mode. On August 17, Venus moves out of the misty vision of Neptune and into the heavy gaze of Saturn. The leaden expectation of Saturn becomes heaviest on August 21, when the opposition becomes exact. But Venus in Libra can handle the tests Saturn is giving. She has a spine of steel and knows honesty, integrity and devotion are prayers of action that appease taskmaster Saturn. This is where your relationships to others and self meet the cold weight of reality. You may notice what relationships are intolerable, built on shaky foundations of trust or differing ethics.

Mercury in Leo, The Relationship of Faith and Reason

Mercury finally moves into Leo on August 9 after a very extended stay in Cancer. After over a month of excavating the Cancerian memory tides during the retrograde, you may notice that your mind shifts into broader and warmer gears. Mercury is very active and fast this month and plays a role in the solar eclipse on August 12, while also having meetings with nearly the entire planetary crew. Mercury’s first meetup is with Pluto, our underworld mob boss, on August 11. Every planet moving through Leo this month has a meeting with Pluto first, and Mercury is the last one of August. Never forget that in astrological myth telling, Mercury is quite familiar with the underworlds and in fact, just came back from one of their tri-annual retrograde visits. You may find this meeting to help you more deeply process your experience of Mercury in Cancer retrograde, or even find some secrets or truths that are revealed to the world. Pluto is connected to wealth and Mercury is connected to commerce, so it may be a wonderful day for a treasure hunt or investing into that stock you’ve had your eye on.

Mercury is moving into a conjunction with Jupiter the next day, August 12, which is also the day of the solar eclipse. Mercury is moving quite fast at this point, about two degrees a day, and so is Jupiter, at about one degree a day, and so the two hang out in the sky together for about a week. This meeting is blessed, lucky, and thankfully not quite in the grasp of Pluto. The sun is getting drained by the south node during the meeting of Jupiter and Mercury. It’s as if the sun is being treated by the royal physician for excess heat, while the head of the church and the head banker keep the kingdom running smoothly. By the end of Leo season and the end of August, Mercury also meets the south node for recalibration and releasing. On August 25, Mercury moves into Virgo and then on August 27, into the heart of the sun. All of the cleansing of these two by the south node will result in even deeper clarity and understanding of personal truth.

Mars in Cancer Tests Our Moods

When Mars moves into Cancer on August 11, the warrior comes into a sharp aspect with the mystic drug dealer, Neptune and the lover Venus very quickly. Mars is very protective, emotional and passionate in Cancer. Mars does best when given work to do and becomes restless and irritable when not directed towards something. With sharp edges to Venus and Neptune interrupting their sensual mermaid party, Mars in Cancer continues to prowl on the fringe with sharp claws ready to snap. Are we losing ourselves in beauty to nourish our hearts or to forget about the horrors outside the door? Mars stays snapping at Neptune until August 25, trying to get us to recognize what is delusion and what is mystic vision. On August 25, Mars is finally out of the warm sea of Neptune and in the dry desert of Saturn. This is a frustrating energy. Saturn in Aries is demanding we blaze our trail into new selves, and he is impatient yet restrictive and moving extremely slowly. Mars in Cancer is rushing water towards dry Saturn. There is a push/pull of do/stop, build/destroy, hot/cold, fast/slow. This meetup becomes exact on the last day of August and will continue through September.

Eclipse Season Opens Doors and Slams Others Closed

On August 12 we have our first eclipse in the Leo/Aquarius axis of your chart after 18 months of change in the Virgo/Pisces sector. With the sun, moon, Jupiter, Mercury and south node together in Leo, the cosmos is shining light on your authenticity. Where have you dimmed your light in order to be accepted? Why are you afraid of being seen? What makes you human? This solar eclipse is opposing Pluto in Aquarius and the north node in Aquarius. The bright lights of the sun and Jupiter are in conversation with the truth seeking darkness of Pluto. Some people experience eclipses physically in their body; this is a great time to take off work and rest in the cool dark.

Two weeks later on August 28, there is a partial lunar eclipse in the Virgo/Pisces axis of your chart. A partial lunar eclipse in astrology is when the sun and moon are 15 degrees or less from the nodes. And so the sun will be in Virgo and the moon will be in Pisces, instead of being in the same signs as the nodes. Think of this as wrapping up the story of the eclipses in Virgo/Pisces in your chart. There are still a few pages left in this chapter of your life that need to be written. The story of the nodes through the Virgo/Pisces parts of your chart has to do with intuition, reason, data, order, formlessness, empathy, service and dreams. The sun is nearing his meeting with Mercury in Virgo after both have been cleansed by the south node in Leo. The clarity you have been seeking can finally be articulated. Uranus squares the moon, sun, and Mercury, so expect the unexpected! There are still revelations being given to you.
