January 30: Mercury Stations Retrograde in Aquarius

The moon enters Virgo at 12:02 a.m., and moon void of course ends

Just after midnight, the moon ends its void of course by slipping into orderly Virgo, and for the next two days, our emotional balance rests in the hands of our pipelines and routines. This is an ideal influence for organizing and decluttering physical spaces. The Virgo moon offers a good balance of intuition and discipline, yet while we are pragmatic now, we can be prone to anxiety if a wrench is thrown in our surgically devised plans.

Mercury goes retrograde at 7:52 a.m.

In the morning, Mercury begins its first retrograde station of 2021, reversing through Aquarius until February 20. In the sign of the Water-bearer, Mercury’s backspin leaves us particularly vulnerable to communication gaffes, undelivered messages, and technological short-circuiting. (What happens when you drop your electronics in water?)

Yet as always, retrogrades are nothing to fear. They simply shift our engagement from the external landscape to our inner, psychological one, and so our more extroverted sentiments can become confused or come out scrambled at this time.

Mercury retrograde offers medicine through self-reflection, review, and reconsideration, aiding us in internalizing lessons we would not otherwise if our social practices were left unchecked. All of Mercury’s retrograde periods are in air signs this year, so really consider what this means. In the most mental and thinking-oriented of signs, we need to be particularly cognizant of not only our words but how we use them. Seek to be intentional in your discussions, allow for delays or scheduling errors, and back up your technology in advance.

The moon is trine Uranus at 11:52 a.m.

Before noon, the Virgo moon makes a trine to Uranus in Taurus, showing us that progress doesn’t always have to be uncomfortable. We need newness in our lives at this time, and can benefit from doing something outside of our usual routines. By remaining flexible we can work more efficiently, and better use our resources to our advantage. Sudden intuition and insights are available, especially if we are employing divination techniques like Tarot, scrying, or astrology. This is a great transit for revelation and self-discovery, one which can release us from stagnating behaviors.

The moon is trine Mars at 8:57 p.m.

In the night, the moon also trines Mars in Taurus, providing charisma and sensuality. The Virgo moon breaks down our problems into manageable parts which Mars tackles with ease. We have considerable sex appeal at this time because we feel good in our bodies and are intellectually tuned in. Although perhaps less energized than other moon-Mars combos, given the connection in earth signs, what we lack in dynamism we make up for in the slow build.
