2020 Astrology Predictions: Lunar Nodes Enter Gemini and Sagittarius
On May 5 of 2020, the lunar nodes will leave Cancer and Capricorn and enter the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius.
The impact of the lunar nodes is one of the most mysterious and mesmerizingly meaningful aspects of astrology. A mathematical calculation revealing the shifting intersection between our orbit on earth with the orbit of the moon, the lunar nodes also demarcate eclipses whenever a new moon or full moon aligns in proximity. In transit, their true node calculation does not move in a straight line but rather twists and turns, snake-like in motion backward through the zodiac.
The lunar nodes will leave Cancer and Capricorn and enter the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius on May 5 of 2020, where they will trace their serpentine path until January 18, 2022. Thus, the transition to the north node of the moon occupying Gemini and the south node of the moon residing in Sagittarius is one of the major themes of the second quarter of 2020. The north node in Gemini points toward new choices and growth, ambitious desires, and absorption of new material. In contrast, the south node in Sagittarius unveils old, familiar issues in need of digesting, decomposing, harvesting, and release.
What do the stars have in store for you in 2020?
Once the north node of the moon shifts into Gemini during May of 2020, the planet Mercury will become our trickster guide in the pursuit of new opportunities. Since Gemini is a mutable sign, we can expect to find ourselves on a digressive path in which we will need to embrace changes of direction as well as exert focus to avoid excessive distraction. However, since Mercury is ruling the north node it means it will be important to be pulled away from preconceived plans and remain open to being led in a new direction in order to receive new information. We will need to value curiosity and be willing to question dogmatic viewpoints, as well as being willing to listen to and integrate new perspectives.

We will especially need to be willing to question ourselves during the time in which Mercury moves retrograde. Mercury will be retrograde in the waters signs during 2020, and so after the north node moves into Gemini there will be a Mercury retrograde phase in Cancer from June 17 through July 12, and then another retrograde phase in Scorpio from October 13 until November 3 when Mercury will station direct in Libra in range of a harmonious trine with the north node. Mercury will be inviting us to probe and question the emotional undercurrents and unconscious patterns that underlie our perception and communication. Since Venus will also station retrograde in Gemini on May 13 a week after the north node enters Gemini, a major lesson in 2020 will involve finding new ways to communicate our emotional needs within relationships.
Once the south node of the moon enters Sagittarius during May 2020, the planet Jupiter will be offering counsel on how to resolve and wisely draw from our beliefs and the way we find meaning in life. While Jupiter signifies expansion, since it will be ruling the south node of the moon it means we will be needing to examine our underlying philosophy of life in order to shed the aspects that are no longer aligned with our experience. Notably, the Jupiterian astrologer Dane Rudhyar described the south node as not only being a place of decay or disintegration, but also a seed-like re-channeling into creative expression and spiritual development. Since Jupiter will be residing in Capricorn for most of 2020 along with Pluto and Saturn, we will need to regenerate our vision of life by digging underneath the surface of issues and dealing with any difficulties we discover there.
Prepare for the year ahead with your 2020 Tarot reading
There will be a major shift with our experience of the south node at the end of the year, when Jupiter enters Aquarius on December 19 and begins to apply toward a conjunction with Saturn in Aquarius, which will perfect on December 21. We also will not experience a solar eclipse in Gemini and Sagittarius until the end of the year when there will be a total solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 14 of 2020 at 24 degrees of Sagittarius. The more we can clear out and shed inessential or ineffective beliefs during the year, the more we can open to the potential of integrating a new vision at the end of the year.
