Launch It Now: Why September Is Better for Big Plans Than the Rest of Fall
The universe ebbs and flows just like a celestial sea. At times, the energy runs rapidly, whereas during other periods, everything seems like it is slow and people are confused, nowhere to be found, and projects are hitting delays. When we watch the heavens, we can refer to the “astroweather” or “astrological aspects” to understand the collective vibration that is occurring near any given date when the planets align. Sometimes, though, there are periods where we know that we have more in our favor to move things forward. Just like looking at a weekly weather forecast, we will want to know if we should bring an umbrella if it is going to rain or sunglasses if it’s going to be bright and warm. Let’s take a quick look at September 2026!
The Cosmic Greenlight: All Personal Planets Direct
In the decades that I’ve been researching, studying, and mapping out the stars—and working as a global professional astrologer—I’ve found that there are certain periods that are more auspicious for us to move our plans, lives, projects, and relationships forward. Having all of our planets in the solar system direct at the same time is often quite rare, but the good thing is that when our outer planets are retrograde—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto—they tend to affect the collective evolution a bit more than our individual daily lives. That is, of course, if the planets are not being heavily activated by an astrological aspect or one’s natal chart or natal planets! Yet, when we have our personal planets—Mercury, Venus, and Mars—all direct and moving forward, we find that our daily affairs and lives can move forward more quickly. In fact, it is more favorable to launch all major plans, projects, decisions, and relationships when these core planets are “awake” because when they are retrograde, we can experience more challenges, roadblocks, and hiccups. Launching anything new—whether it’s a relationship or signing a contract—ends up needing to be revised if it is initiated during any one of those retrogrades.
Even though we are technically in Venus retrograde pre-shadow (which began on August 31, 2026), our Lesser Benefic is still moving forward. Pre-shadow and post-shadow phases of all personal planets can certainly be felt, but they are never quite as “intense” as the actual retrograde itself. In upcoming articles, I will talk more about how to work with retrograde energy as we are entering “the vortex of the past,” but for now, know that September is a pivotal period to get all of your ducks in a row and lay the seeds for anything new while you can. October and November will be overshadowed by Venus and Mercury retrograde, and by the time they regulate their orbit, we will already be getting closer to Mars retrograde at the onset of 2027, which is the most difficult of these three particular cycles.
So use this time to outline your plans. Put your goals into action. Time is of the essence! Carpe diem!
What Are the Key Energies to Embrace in September 2026?
First and foremost: let’s take a peek at the mighty sun, which ties to our life force and energy. As the sun travels through the heavens, wherever our luminary spins, we find the human collective focusing more on the themes of this particular zodiac sign. Every September, the sun starts out in Virgo and remains here until September 22. With the sun in Virgo, all of the themes of this earth sign are more pronounced: productivity and efficiency, employment matters or projects, coworkers or staff who report to us, physical health, routines and responsibilities, as well as pets. After September 22, we cross the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (and the spring equinox in the Southern Hemisphere)—and this marks the onset of Libra season. During this period of the year, the human collective begins to focus more on their relationships and partnerships, as well as agreements and negotiations.
Other important things to focus upon in September 2026 are obviously the key lunations: the new moon in Virgo on September 10, 2026 (18 degrees) and full moon in Aries (3 degrees). Overall, when looking at the cosmic energy of the new moon, it is mostly beneficial, but could still cause us to have to dig into the details to make things happen. The full moon in Aries—which is referred to as either the Harvest Moon or the Corn Moon—unfortunately has a lot of rocky energy, despite the outer planets still being in a remarkable tapestry. Because of this, we should probably lie low and if we feel fired up and provoked, it would be best to take a step back and breathe before we charge into battle.
Mercury, our planet of the mind and communications, makes fast tracks in September. Until September 10, Mercury soars through his home zodiac sign of Virgo. This will aid us in being grounded, practical, organized, and logical. From September 10 until September 30, our cosmic messenger soars into Libra, further turning our attention to relationship matters and aiding us in seeing eye to eye with others.
Venus, our planet of beauty and relationships, switches zodiac signs this month, too. Until September 10, she also orbits in the degrees of Libra, which brings pleasant connections to the forefront of our lives and allows existing unions to grow better or for those looking for a partner to find camaraderie. After September 10, our Lesser Benefic soars into Scorpio—where she is in her detriment—which means she is weakened and has great difficulty orbiting here. She cannot exhibit her soft, passive nature and instead must take on the energies of the scorpion. This can cause us to focus more on intimacy, sensuality, sexuality, or wealth—which are certainly positive things, but it can also bring about more jealousy, manipulation, power struggles, and challenges in relationships.
For the vast majority of the month, Mars, our planet of passion and drive, dances through the seas of Cancer—until September 27. All of the themes of Cancer may be more active for us: home, family, domestic affairs, real estate, our past, or our ancestors. However, there can also be tension around these themes, as Mars is very weak in Cancer—in its “fall.”
Jupiter continues his race through the kingdoms of Leo, bringing us vibrant opportunities for passion, romance, recreation, and expression. Even though our Great Benefic enters pre-shadow (17 degrees) on September 16, do not worry. We still have until December before Jupiter retrogrades. Be sure to read your individual horoscopes to understand how Jupiter is influencing you at this time—luck could be there!
