January 20: Sun enters Aquarius
Aquarius season and emotional courage
The moon is square Venus at 5:20 a.m.
Soon after the moon moves into Sagittarius, it comes into a fleeting square with Venus in Pisces during the early morning. It sets the morning up for what might be mild clashes between impulsive emotional expression and sensitive relational matters. It’s a little edgy, but we can take care to balance our emotional authenticity and honesty with compassion and consideration.

The sun enters Aquarius at 6:55 a.m.
Capricorn season comes to a close now until the end of the year, and we enter the second, middle portion of the winter season. At 6:55 a.m. the sun enters the fixed air sign Aquarius for the next month, and a cold, crisp, crystalline phase sets in. In classical astrology, Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, giving this sign serious and judicial tendencies, yet Aquarius’ role seems to be upholding a sense of social justice and tests the validity of systems and conventions we have built. It’s a time to be curious, inventive and socially active, trading thoughts and ideas as a form of intellectual currency.

The moon is conjunct Mars at 11:47 a.m.
In the late morning, the moon in bold Sagittarius joins Mars in the centaur’s sign, setting the stage for emotional outbursts as brutal honesty. It’s a time of speaking first and thinking later, with drive and initiative bursting through in our displays of feeling. The tone is honest and active, and may help us get some things off of our chest that have been simmering for a while. This could be refreshing—and ultimately helpful—or disruptive and potentially harmful if we end up getting caught in the moment and go too far. Today, it’s important to be respectful while we are being necessarily truthful.
